June is Sarcoma Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of this rare and aggressive form of cancer.
Sarcomas are a group of malignant soft tissue diseases. Soft tissues include muscles, nerves, blood vessels, connective tissue, and cartilage. Sarcomas are quite rare, but they are quite dangerous and require long-term treatment. The disease can affect people of all ages, from children to adults, and can develop in any part of the body. The initial symptoms of oncoprocess are enlarged lymph nodes, pronounced weakness and rapid fatigue even after rest. The signs and symptoms of sarcoma depend on the location of the tumour. Some symptoms of sarcoma are: pain at the site of tumour formation; nausea, vomiting; marked weakness, rapid fatigue, loss of energy; loss of appetite and weight loss; tumour is visually defined above the skin surface; deformity of bones, and spine;
By raising awareness of sarcoma, we are helping to communicate to others the importance of early detection and access to specialised care. Together we can make a difference in the lives of people affected by sarcoma.
