February is Low Vision Awareness Month. Let`s know more about it!

Low vision is a term commonly used to refer to partial vision, or vision that cannot be fully corrected by surgery, medication, contact lenses or glasses.

Most people with low vision are over 65. The main causes of vision loss in the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. As for younger people, vision loss is often caused by inherited eye diseases, infectious and autoimmune eye diseases, or trauma. Low vision affects people of all ages.

Understanding the causes and risk factors associated with low vision and arranging screening for yourself or a loved one is the key to protecting your vision as you age. Learning more about low vision is an important part of good health and wellness.
