March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. This condition can affect women of any age, including teenagers – it is estimated that roughly 10% of women and girls who are of reproductive age have endometriosis.

The most common symptoms of endometriosis are painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, painful bowel movements, painful urination, abdominal bloating, nausea, and infertility. Healthcare workers frequently have difficulty diagnosing this condition because of its wide-ranging and diverse symptoms.

At present, there is no cure for endometriosis, however, there are treatment options that are usually aimed at controlling the symptoms.
