Anniversary series part 3 – Last but not least for the month of January is Mara, Senior CRA from Romania.

  1. When did you join GCT and how long have you been with the company?

I joined GCT in January 2020, so I’ve been with the company for over 5 years.

  1. Which office are you based in?

I am currently based in Bucharest, our Romanian office.

  1. Could you tell us more about your role and your professional background?

I started my career as a Pharmacist and later became a Pharmacist Manager, which gave me a strong foundation in regulatory compliance, pharmaceutical operations, and patient safety. Now, as a Senior Clinical Research Associate (CRA) at GCT, beyond standard site monitoring and ensuring strict GCP adherence, I oversee trial execution from initiation through close-out, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

  1. What’s changed at the company since you’ve joined?

One of the biggest and most impactful changes we’ve navigated since I joined in 2020 has been the shift to centralized submission through CTIS. It streamlined the process, bringing the Romanian clinical trials landscape and the rest of Europe onto the same page.

  1. What have you learned during your time at GCT?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is how important it is to stay adaptable and keep learning in clinical research. The regulatory landscape changes constantly and working through these shifts showed me that success depends on how quickly we can adjust our processes. Being flexible helps us keep trials moving forward safely, efficiently and in full compliance.

  1. In your view, how does GCT make a meaningful impact on people’s lives? What contribution do you find most significant?

GCT makes a meaningful impact by serving as the critical bridge that connects brilliant scientific research with real-world patient therapies. By rigorously and successfully managing complex global clinical trials, we significantly reduce the time it takes for potentially life-improving medicines to move from the lab to the pharmacy shelf.

  1. What motivates you to come to work each day?

The team I get to work with, especially the colleagues from the Romanian office. Their support, collaboration and positive energy make even the busiest days rewarding.

  1. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?

I love traveling and exploring new places. I also enjoy reading, Agatha Christie style mysteries are my favorite. Recently, I’ve also gotten into drawing which has become a really relaxing hobby for me.

  1. What do you believe GCT’s mission is?

I think GCT’s mission is to be a trusted partner for Sponsors, offering flexible and high-quality clinical trial support so that promising therapies can reach the market responsibly.

  1. What’s the biggest lesson your time at GCT has taught you about work — or about yourself?

My time at GCT has taught me how important it is to adapt quickly and stay open to learning new things. The environment changes often, and I’ve learned to be more flexible, resourceful, and confident in taking on unfamiliar tasks.
