August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, a special time to raise awareness of the importance to keep our children’s eyes protected and ensure optimal vision.

As parents, caretakers and educators, it is our responsibility to look after the health of our children’s eyes and watch out for the first signs that a child may have a vision problem. It is best to have your children’s eyes checked annually.  Indicators of decreased vision in children: blinks often, rubs eyes, squints; bends low when studying up close; complains of fatigue, eye strain during classes; headaches after school, doing homework, reading.

Children rely on their vision to learn, play and explore the world around them, so it is important that we prioritise their health and safety. By taking proactive measures and seeking appropriate help, we can ensure our children’s eyes are healthy and strong.
