The month of October is designated to increase awareness about breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissues of the breast. There are many different types of breast cancer that can affect both women and men.
A lump in the breast or underarm that doesn’t go away is usually the first symptom of breast cancer. Early detection of breast cancer through annual mammography and other breast exams is the best defense against receiving a late-stage diagnosis.
Around 2.3 million people are diagnosed with the disease globally each year. The good news is that breast cancer survival rates have increased, and the number of deaths associated with this disease is steadily declining, mainly due to factors such as earlier detection.
